With summer wrapping up, you will start seeing more and more window air conditioners going on sale. Most houses have some sort of central air conditioning system but sometimes we want to see if adding a simple air conditioning window unit would be smart.
Over the last few years, these units have grown in popularity. These systems are all in one smaller system that is usually good for one smaller area or room. Since these units are relatively heavy, they are not designed to be moved from room to room.
What would the benefits be of using these units in a room? If you spend the majority of your time in one room or a portion of your house, using a simple window unit to keep it cool while your central system is set at a higher temperature may be a smarter option for you to have. Let’s say you keep the window unit at 72 degrees in your living room but the rest of the house is at 78 degrees. You may end up saving a lot of money over the summer months by doing this technique.
Depending on the size of the room and the unit BTUs, you have to be careful with the amount of energy it does consume, however. The more BTUs required to cool a room, the more electricity you will have to pay for. These units can also be a little louder than your central air unit. When you have a window unit on, you can hear it going. The efficiency of these units has approved over the years and maybe a good option to include in your apartment or house.
